Two men attempted self-immolation on Friday during a protest against the planned disposal of 337 tonnes of hazardous waste from Bhopal's Union Carbide factory in Madhya Pradesh's Pithampur. The two, who were part of a demonstration, poured flammable liquid on themselves, however, people and police officials prevented the tragedy as they intervened to extinguish the flames.
