Scientists have discovered that gold nanoparticles are accumulated inside the needles of spruce trees in Norway. The gold likely gets accumulated due to action by the bacteria present inside the needles, the study found. "This insight is useful, since screening for such bacteria in plant leaves may facilitate gold exploration," the lead author Kaisa Lehosma said.
