Supreme Court has rejected the Tamil Nadu government's plea against Karnataka's proposed Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir on the Cauvery River, calling the challenge 'premature'. The Court said only expert bodies like the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) can assess the project now. Karnataka remains bound to release water as ordered.
