Why are doors installed between track & platform at metro stations?

Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) are installed at metro stations to separate the platform from the tracks, preventing people and objects from falling. Beyond safety, they also help reduce power consumption by keeping conditioned air from escaping into the tunnels. PSDs also act as sound barriers by cancelling noise from train movement and prevent dust from tunnels from entering the platform.
