Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy (2007-2012) began his 5-year sentence at La Santé prison in Paris. He has been convicted of conspiring to illegally raise millions of euros from former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi for his 2007 presidential campaign. Although he was acquitted of personally receiving the funds, he was found guilty of conspiring with aides to arrange the deal.
